Working From Home

Picture
If you are one of the lucky ones who can work from home, here are some tips to be productive while WFH.
  1. Keep a schedule. We all function well with schedules and routine. Set a start time. Break for lunch. You can be flexible, find a routine that works for you and your family. If your kids are doing remote learning, pair their reading hour at the same time your teleconference is to ensure the house is quiet and you can concentrate. Or start your work day while they are sleeping in or eating their breakfast, after all you won't have to commute.
  2. Create a work space. DO NOT WORK from your couch, while you binge watching Grey's Anatomy. Designate a space in your home to work from, make it your home office and stick to working in that space. Set up a essential oil diffuser and soft music. Is everything on the technology front set? Is your internet connection fast enough? Is the lighting decent for teleconferencing? Is the ceiling fan in the frame? Is your computer's software up to date, will the programs you need run smoothly.
  3. Keep organized. Use a planner or calendar (paper or virtual). Write down your meetings, deadlines, etc. Make a to do list of things you want to accomplish each day. Plus it feels extra good when we cross a task off the list.
  4. Don’t stay in pjs. You may be working from home, but it doesn't mean you don't have to brush your teeth or wear deodorant. Get ready for your work day like you normally would. When we look the part, we feel the part. Dress for success (you can skip the heels), prep your meals and snacks and make your coffee. Use your lunch and breaks to do just that, don't spend that time cooking food and doing dishes.
  5. When you're pau you’re pau. Clock out. At the end of your work day, leave your work in your designated work space. Sign out of work emails from your phone and turn notifications.  You deserve a break!
